Weekly Writing 1
Prompt: "Write two pages about your previous Holocaust education. If you haven't had much, that's OK--you can talk about what you have learned about it from other sources, such as movies or books"
I selected this Weekly Writing because it was basically the first assignment I wrote for this class in the semester. To write this essay, I had to think a little bit about the things a already new about the Holocaust and then decide which ones were the ones I knew better and which ones I had only heard about. Going through the process of writing this paper made me realize that I didn't know as much as I thought about the Holocaust. Actually, this artifact reads..."Most of my knowledge, however, is concentrated in the WWII more than the Holocaust itself,..."
This paper was the first piece of writing that my professor would see, so I was very anxious about the process of making it and about getting a good result on it. While writing it, I felt the need of enlarging my English vocabulary because some things were hard for me to explain appropriately and that frustrated me a little. However, when I finished writing it I was content with the result, specially because it was the first time I ever wrote a paper that was solely based on describing my previous knowledge on a topic. I think I met the standards that were set for the assignment, and the most remarkable thing that I got out of this essay was that I gave a good and personal first impression as a writer. Also, this piece helped me in one or two other writings that I did, were I had to mention details about my knowledge in the topic that I was inquiring.
To show the progress that I feel I did as a writer in this class, I decided to put together this artifact with the next one presented in this page, because they both are weekly writings and they were done following the same general instructions.

Weekly Writing 7
Prompt: "Find another source on your inquiry topic. It can be from our Internet Resources list or a similar credible source. It can be an article or book (or chapter in a book). As usual, please include all documentation information that you would need to complete a Works Cited entry on this source. Summarize the source in one paragraph. Find three quotations in the source that really speak to you --- ones that surprise you or that explain an idea well. Write about each quotation separately, and talk about why this quotation is important to you and your inquiry work. How does it relate? Why does it matter to you as an inquirer and researcher?"
This artifact was included in my portfolio because it is one of the writing that I am the most proud about. This was the last weekly writing that we did in this class, and it took a long time to make it look like this. When the time to start writing this paper came, I had a very large knowledge in the use of references in papers, and also in my own inquiry topic. The hardest part was probably to create appropriate comments for the quotes that I chose from the main source that I used in this paper, because sometimes we want to say something that makes total sense but is hard to connect it to a quote written by someone else.
The resource that I used for this paper comes form the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum's website, and it was one of my favorite articles to read during the time that I spent doing my research. "I liked this article because I think it gives a good explanation of all the aspects related to the IMT during the trials, like who were the leaders, what charges did they use against the defendants and how the verdicts worked out"... This quote comes from this artifact and it perfectly explains why I felt like that about the source that I used.
I am very pleased with the result of my effort in this assignment because I think it meets the requirements that were set by my professor, and it also reaches my own expectations, which are usually pretty high. I want to compare this artifact to the one before because they were done following the same general instructions, but changing the topics, and I think that the progress that I did as a writer is evident in both the use of my English in writing and the fluency of it.
